LATEST INVESTIGATIONS

Data files at several universities and hospitals—including Stanford University and the University of California—were compromised and released to the dark web. Is your personal and health information at risk?

In December 2020 and January 2021, cybercriminals exploited a weakness in Accellion, the file transfer software used by many universities and hospitals. The cybercriminals accessed documents that included academic transcripts, medical records, research grants, and employment contracts, and then made those files available to download on a website called Clop, which is run by cybercriminals. This breach put the personal information—including social security numbers and medical information—of 1.2 million people at risk of theft. If you are concerned that your personal information was stolen, please contact our data privacy attorneys at (800) 776-6044 or dataprivacy@kellerrohrback.com.

Is the headrest on your Mercedes-Benz putting you at risk of injury?

Mercedes-Benz owners and lessees have reported that the NECK-PRO active headrests deploy without warning, even when no crash has occurred. While the headrest is designed to spring forward when a vehicle is hit from behind to catch the occupants’ heads and prevent whiplash, the headrests are allegedly deploying without any impact having occurred. This is not only distracting to drivers and passengers, but it can also cause serious harm to occupants’ heads and necks. If you own or lease a Mercedes-Benz with NECK-PRO headrests, please contact us at cars@kellerrohrback.com or (800) 776-6044.

Is your Hyundai or Kia at risk of catastrophic engine failure?

Consumers have reported that the engines in certain Hyundai and Kia vehicles contain a manufacturing defect that can result in catastrophic engine failure. This defect may also cause engines in the vehicles listed below to experience sudden vehicle stalling during operation. If you or someone you know owns or leases one of the vehicles listed below, please contact our automotive litigation attorneys at cars@kellerrohrback.com or (800) 776-6044.

Was your child’s medical information compromised?

In June and July 2020, the data of nearly 1.3 million patients was compromised when unauthorized parties gained access to private medical information housed by healthcare organizations Mednax and Pediatrix. Many of the victims of this breach were babies and children, whose personal information is now potentially at risk of identity theft and fraud for years to come. If you’re concerned that your child’s patient information was unlawfully accessed, please contact Keller Rohrback’s data privacy attorneys at dataprivacy@kellerrohrback.com or (800) 776-6044.

Keller Rohrback Named Law360 Legal Lion

Last week, a Washington federal judge granted the City of Seattle's motion to dismiss the ERISA Industry Committee v City of Seattle case, which challenged the City's landmark law requiring large hotels to provide access to adequate health care for their employees and the employees’ families. The motion was granted without leave to amend. Our work on this case led to the firm being named one of Law360's Legal Lions.
