Case Status
Keller Rohrback filed suit in the Southern District of Florida. The cases were consolidated into the Zantac multidistrict litigation (“MDL”), which was formed on February 6, 2020. The MDL was assigned to Judge Robin L. Rosenberg.
Case Overview
On April 1, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) announced a recall on all prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) Zantac and generic ranitidine from the market relating to a discovery that it may contain high levels of a known carcinogenic chemical known as N-nitrosodimethylamine or “NDMA.” An independent lab notified the FDA that Zantac and other products with ranitidine contained up to 3,000 times the designated daily intake limit of NDMA.
The link between NDMA and certain types of cancer has been known since the 1980s, but this information was concealed from the millions of people who took Zantac every day for heartburn, ulcers, acid reflux, and other issues. Potentially linked cancers include:
- Bladder Cancer
- Brain Cancer
- Breast Cancer
- Colorectal Cancer
- Esophageal/Throat/Nasal Cancer
- Intestinal Cancer
- Kidney Cancer
- Liver Cancer
- Lung Cancer
- Ovarian Cancer
- Pancreatic Cancer
- Prostate Cancer
- Stomach Cancer
- Testicular Cancer
- Thyroid Cancer
- Uterine Cancer
