In what might be mistaken for the plot of a dystopian novel, online retailing behemoth Amazon.com, Inc (Amazon) has allegedly been collecting and using the biometric data of the users of its Amazon Photos service. Even more terrifying, it is collecting and using the biometric data of non-consenting minors, whose photos are uploaded through the service. Amazon has been using the photos uploaded to this service to train and improve its facial recognition deep-learning Artificial Intelligence (AI) software known as ReKognition – which it then markets and sells to businesses, governmental organizations and other entities. We believe that this is a breach of public trust and privacy. If you or your child used Amazon Photos, your privacy may be at risk. Contact us to learn more about your legal rights.
We are looking to add additional Illinois plaintiffs whose privacy rights have been violated by Amazon. If you have used Amazon Photo service and have uploaded images of your minor child/children, we want to hear from you. Please contact us at [email protected], (800) 776-6044, or by using the secure form on this page.
Keller Rohrback and its co-counsel have brought suit against Amazon on behalf of Illinois citizens who have had their biometric identifiers, including scans of facial geometry and related biometric information, collected, captured, received or otherwise obtained by Amazon from photographs stored in Amazon Photos accounts which we allege is in violation of The Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA).
