Related Case: In re Facebook, Inc., Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation

On Friday, August 26, 2022, Facebook User Plaintiffs and Defendant Facebook informed the court that they have reached a settlement in principle in the action In re: Facebook, Inc. Consumer Privacy User Profile Litig., No. 3:18-md-02843-VC. Keller Rohrback partner Derek Loeser serves as Co-Lead Counsel for Plaintiffs in this action, along with Lesley Weaver of Bleichmar Fonti & Auld LLP. This case arises from reporting in March 2018 that up to 87 million Facebook users had their information harvested by the data mining firm Cambridge Analytica. Plaintiffs have alleged that Facebook granted numerous third parties, including Cambridge Analytica, access to their Facebook content and information without their consent, and that Facebook failed to monitor the third parties’ access to, and use of, that information.

District Judge Vince Chhabria of the Northern District of California has granted the parties’ request to stay the case, to allow them to finalize a written settlement and present to the court for preliminary approval.
