Keller Rohrback Files Amicus Brief with Washington Supreme Court on Behalf of ACLU-WA

Update: On November 16, 2017, after oral arguments and a case review, the Supreme Court of Washington unanimously found that Tarra Denelle Simmons “has the requisite moral character and fitness to practice law in the State of Washington” and, therefore, she should be allowed to sit for the Washington bar examination.

On August 7, 2017, Keller Rohrback L.L.P. partners David Copley, Laura Gerber and Tana Lin, representing the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington (ACLU) and 102 other organizations and individuals, filed a Brief of Amici Curiae (“Friends of the Court”) with the Washington Supreme Court in the case In re Tarra Denelle Simmons, Bar Applicant, Supreme Court No. 201,671-5 (“Simmons”).The issue before the Court is whether to allow Tarra Simmons, a local civil rights leader and recent graduate of Seattle University Law School, to take the Bar Examination because of her past criminal record.
