Keller Rohrback L.L.P. is investigating recent reports of a large data breach of patient information from the Florida-based healthcare provider 21st Century Oncology.  Reports indicate that approximately 2.2 million current and former patients may have had their information exposed, including their names, Social Security numbers, physician’s names, medical diagnoses, treatment information as well as insurance information.

According to the company’s press release, on November 13, 2015 the FBI notified 21st Century Oncology that a third party hacker illegally accessed the provider database on or around October 3, 2015, but asked 21st Century to delay notification until March 4, 2016 to avoid interfering with its federal investigation.  Now that the request for delay is over, 21st Century is notifying those patients whose information may have been accessed.

21st Century Oncology operates 145 cancer treatment centers in the United States, including: Alabama; Arizona; California; Florida; Indiana; Kentucky; Maryland; Massachusetts; Michigan; Nevada; New Jersey; New York; North Carolina; Rhode Island; South Carolina; Washington; and West Virginia.
