Keller Rohrback Investigates Petco and PetSmart Wage Theft Allegations
January 25, 2017
If you are a pet groomer at Petco or PetSmart in Washington State, you might be entitled to compensation for unpaid rest breaks. The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries administrative policy on Meal and Rest Periods states that “employees shall be allowed a rest period of not less than ten minutes on the employer’s time in each four hours of working time.” The policy further states that “the term ‘on the employer’s time’ is considered to mean that the employer is responsible for paying the employee for the time spent on a rest period.” This includes employees such as Petco and PetSmart pet groomers who are paid per service rather than an hourly wage, but our preliminary investigation suggests that these pet supply retailers may not be properly compensating these workers.
