Keller Rohrback Named Law360 Legal Lion

Last week, a Washington federal judge granted the City of Seattle's motion to dismiss the ERISA Industry Committee v City of Seattle case, which challenged the City's landmark law requiring large hotels to provide access to adequate health care for their employees and the employees’ families. The motion was granted without leave to amend.

This dismissal comes at a pivotal moment when workers need access to health care more than ever. As co-counsel Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes said, "the current health crisis demonstrates the urgent need for adequate health care coverage for workers and their families." We are proud that this outcome will provide hospitality employees access to adequate health care. Learn more about the case here.

Keller Rohrback’s Erin Riley, Jeffrey Lewis, and Rachel Morowitz represented the City in defending an earlier version of the Ordinance, advised the City in rewriting that ordinance to make it more “preemption-proof,” and assisted the City Attorney’s office in drafting the motion to dismiss. Our work on this case led to the firm being named one of Law360's Legal Lions in its "Weekly Verdict: Legal Lions & Lambs" post this week. Read it here.
