Keller Rohrback L.L.P. is excited to announce that partner Derek Loeser has been appointed as interim Co-Lead Counsel in In re TikTok, Inc. Minor Privacy Litigation.

This class action lawsuit alleges that TikTok Inc., TikTok U.S. Data Security Inc., and ByteDance Inc. unlawfully collected and used the personal data of children under the age of 13 without parental consent, in violation of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule.

This important case addresses critical questions about children’s privacy, corporate accountability, and the ethical use of personal data in the digital age. Social media platforms like TikTok wield immense influence over young users, yet many parents and guardians remain unaware of the extent to which these platforms collect and monetize children's personal information.
Derek was appointed as Interim Co-Lead Counsel by the Honorable George H. Wu of the United States District Court for the Central District of California, alongside Eric Kafka of Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll PLLC.

Derek shared the following about his leadership appointment:

“I’m honored to be appointed Co-Lead Counsel in this important case and thankful for the opportunity. I look forward to working with my colleagues at Keller Rohrback and Co-Counsel as we press forward to protect children from TikTok’s alleged unlawful conduct.”
