Recent news reports have revealed that Toyota, Lexus, and Mazda routinely shared information about drivers’ driving behavior with insurance data brokers such as Connected Analytic Services. The data includes trip reports, speed records, and braking events. The data brokers in turn provided the data to insurance companies who then used the information to justify higher rates for their customers.
The car companies reportedly allowed insurance companies to use this sensitive driving information without drivers’ knowledge or consent.
Consumers can request an Annual Driving Report identifying the driving behavior Connected Analytic Services received about them here.
