The annual event, created by the Legal Foundation of Washington and now observing its 38th year, was held on February 16, 2024 at the Westin Seattle and featured the presentation of the Charles A. Goldmark Distinguished Service Award. This distinction honors an individual or organization who has championed the cause of equal justice by challenging and dismantling systemic barriers. The 2024 recipient was Jorge Barón, former Executive Director of the Northwest Immigration Rights Project and King County Councilmember-elect. The keynote speaker was Jeffery Robinson, Executive Director of the Who We Are Project.
The LFW is a nonprofit organization created in 1984 by the Washington Supreme Court, to fulfill a mission of civil justice for low-income people, recognizing that such legal aid is a basic human right. The support provided by LFW channels expertise and both public and private funds to legal aid organizations across the state of Washington and serves tens of thousands of underserved citizens in need of legal help. Since its inception, LFW has distributed more than $200 million to Washington’s legal aid community.
KR has consistently supported LFW and remains in close alliance with its mission and goals. Besides the firm’s support of the Goldmark Award Luncheon, KR associates take part in the LFW Associates Campaign each year to raise funds for the organization. The firm thoroughly respects LFW’s efforts on behalf of individuals and communities in need, and is gratified to contribute to the cause of legal aid on a continuing basis through that organization.
