Case Overview
On January 19, 2023, T-Mobile announced yet another data breach, at least its eighth data breach since 2017. The breach began November 25, 2022 and T-Mobile failed to detect the unauthorized activity until six weeks later on January 5, 2023. Upon investigation, T-Mobile learned that a subset of the personally identifiable information (PII) data in its possession had been accessed by unauthorized individuals and the compromised data contained names, billing addresses, emails, phone numbers, dates of birth, account numbers, and information such as the number of lines on the account and service plan features of current customers. T-Mobile has admitted this breach compromised highly sensitive personal information of approximately 37 million current postpaid and prepaid customer accounts.
