In June and July 2020, the data of nearly 1.3 million patients was compromised when unauthorized parties gained access to private medical information housed by healthcare organizations Mednax and Pediatrix. Many of the victims of this breach were babies and children, whose personal information is now potentially at risk of identity theft and fraud for years to come. If you’re concerned that your child’s patient information was unlawfully accessed, please contact Keller Rohrback’s data privacy attorneys at dataprivacy@kellerrohrback.com, (800) 776-6044, or by using the secure form on this page.
Despite having learned about the data breaches when they occurred in June and July 2020, Mednax and Pediatrix did not warn the over one million patients impacted by the breaches for six months. Only in December 2020 did Mednax begin sending notices of the breaches to the families of the impacted patients. According to the notice, the unauthorized parties gained access to Mednax and Pediatrix’s Microsoft Office 365-hosted business email accounts through a phishing attack, uncovering unencrypted private and medical information. The compromised information may include patients’ names, birthdates, health insurance information, medical and treatment details, and billing and claims information. This unauthorized access to the patient info of children is particularly harmful, as the consequences can last longer and take longer to detect.
If you are worried that your child’s personal health information and other information was put at risk by Mednax and Pediatrix’s alleged negligence, please contact us for a no-cost consult at dataprivacy@kellerrohrback.com, (800) 776-6044, or by using the secure form on this page.
