Third-party mobile apps developed using the Amazon Ads Software Development Kit (SDK) may be unlawfully collecting and sending your personal private information to Amazon, which in turn sells that data for profit. Keller Rohrback is investigating allegations that Amazon provided app developers with its Amazon Ads SDK, which granted the company access to users' mobile phones when the app was downloaded. The SDK was used to collect extensive, timestamped geolocation data, revealing a wide range of sensitive information about users, including:
- Home and work locations
- Shopping habits
- Religious affiliations
- Sexual orientations
- Health concerns
Thousands of apps may have been developed using the Amazon Ads SDK, including the following popular applications for Apple and Android devices, among many others:
- Weather (The Weather Channel)
- Speedtest by Ookla
- Truecaller: Caller ID Blocker
- Zedge Wallpapers & Ringtones
- Rakuten Viber Messenger
- My Talking Angela
- My Talking Tom
- OfferUp
- Happy Color by Numbers Game
- aquapark.io
- Paper.io 2
